For vendors
Term Detective reports what AI and SaaS vendors' own public documents say about customer data: AI training, retention, subprocessors, hosting, and more. If you're a vendor and you've found your company here, this page explains how we work.
Where our information comes from
Every answer comes from a vendor's publicly available terms: its terms of service, privacy policy, data processing agreement, subprocessor list, trust pages, and similar documents. Each answer shows a short quote from the document, a link to the source, and the date we captured it. We re-check the documents every day and tell our customers when an answer changes.
The terms control
We take marketing and website copy into account, but the terms control. For example, if a vendor's web copy says "we don't train on your data" and its terms of use say "we may use your content to train our models," we report that the terms allow training and cite the terms. We report what the documents say. We don't score vendors, judge compliance, or give legal advice.
If you think we got something wrong
Our team is human, and we can make mistakes. If you believe an answer is incorrect, contact us, give us the corrected material, and point us to the specific terms (a link and the section) that support it. We will prioritize reviewing your request. We update an answer when the published terms support the change, and when the terms themselves change, our daily check picks that up.
How we read your documents
We read public documents at a measured pace, identify ourselves honestly, and respect robots.txt and site terms. You can read how our crawler works, and how to ask us to stop, on our crawler page.
Featured placement and other questions
Would you like to be showcased on our home page or featured in The Fine Print newsletter, or do you have another question? Please reach out. Any paid placement is clearly labeled Sponsored and never changes how we read a vendor's documents.
